The Board of Directors, Management and Staff of Diamond North Credit Union wish to express our condolences to the Humboldt Hockey Club and the Community of Humboldt regarding the tragic accident that occurred on April 6th, 2018.

This accident effected people across the nation and in the communities we serve. Our credit union alongside many of our members wanted to help in some way. For this reason on Monday, April 9, 2018 Diamond North opened an account to accept donations to support the players, families, first responders and all impacted by the accident.  This account was left open for one month and accepted donations at all eight of our branches.

Diamond North collected just over $16,000 in donations from the communities we serve. Further to this contribution, a company in Carrot River called “Simply Creative” also collected donations and added their funds to our grand total of $17,737.00 being donated to the #HumboldtStrong Community Foundation. In addition to these donations, Diamond North Credit Union as an organization donated a lump sum of $10,000 in partnership with 43 Saskatchewan Credit Unions totalling over $240,000 to support the newly-created Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) Assistance Program.

We want to take this opportunity to thank our members for coming together in this time of need.

Saskatchewan Credit Unions Come Together

Saskatchewan credit unions have come together to support the newly-created SJHL Assistance Program, in light of the Humboldt Broncos tragedy. This program will provide mental health assistance to all players, families and billets across the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League affected by the Humboldt Broncos tragic bus crash, as well for the future. Any extra money will go toward an education fund in memory of the lives lost.

Diamond North Credit Union was the first Saskatchewan credit union to engage the support of the community, collecting donations to be directly provided to the Humboldt Broncos. “Once we learned of the magnitude of the accident, which was in our own backyard, we knew we had to set up an account for donations,” says John Shenher, CEO of Diamond North. ”We knew our members and community would want to help financially and that we could assist.”
